It is stating the obvious to say that ‘Secular Scotland feels little need for God’ (Times, 23 July). Neither did the Roman Empire. The rejection of evangelical Christianity at the 2009 General Assembly and thereafter has resulted in loss of conviction and hope of revival. The Church of Scotland has gifted ministers and members but it has become a human centred business organisation unrecognisable from its earlier history.
